Collin College Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program

Program Highlights

Collin College’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography program offers a focused path for students aiming to become skilled sonographers through a full-time, five-semester curriculum. Graduates earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in sonography, with options to specialize in Abdomen-Extended and Obstetrics & Gynecology or Cardiac Sonography.

Program Structure

The program is structured into five semesters and requires full-time attendance. All classes and labs are held in person at the McKinney campus, with clinical hours varying each semester. Depending on the track, students may focus on abdominal, gynecological, or cardiac sonography, gaining a robust understanding of sonographic techniques, anatomy, and patient interaction skills.

Tracks Offered

  1. Abdomen-Extended and Obstetrics & Gynecology Track: This track prepares students to work as general diagnostic sonographers, focusing on abdominal and gynecological imaging.
  2. Cardiac Sonography Track: The cardiac track is tailored for those interested in heart and vascular imaging, covering both cardiac and vascular sonography practices.

Prerequisites

Applicants must complete specific prerequisite courses before applying:

  • General Courses: Anatomy & Physiology I and II, English Composition, College Algebra, and College Physics.
  • Sonography Course: DMSO 1210 (Introduction to Sonography) can be taken in the fall semester for those applying to the general track.

Additionally, students must take the HESI A2 exam, covering subjects such as Anatomy, Biology, Grammar, and Math, to qualify for admission.

Admission Requirements

Admission is selective and based on a points system that includes HESI A2 scores, GPA, and bonus points for additional coursework or healthcare experience. Top candidates are invited for an interview, and acceptance letters are issued based on a combination of points and interview scores.

Cost and Financial Aid

The total estimated cost of the program, including prerequisite courses, is approximately $6,496.30. This estimate covers tuition, fees, books, and essential supplies. Financial aid options and scholarships may be available for eligible students, and applicants are encouraged to explore these options early.
